Apaurusheya Bhashya - Editors Perspective


The Practical Significance of Maharishis Commentary on Rig Veda 


Around 5000 years after the last Ice Age, a shift in the quality of time and society manifested in a war documented by Maharishi Veda Vyasa in the MAHABHARATA. At that time, Maharishi Veda Vyasa and his disciples also structured the Veda and the explanatory Vedic literature in a highly ordered way to promote the practical application of the Veda. This Vedic tradition is still preserved and has proven its cultural significance. The cultural development which started at that time is monitored in India with a calendar beginning 17-12-3139 BC, the victory day of King Yudhishthira in the Mahabharata war. The year 2000 AC equals the year 5139 in Yudhishthira Samvatsara. The Vedic studies of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (1918 - 2008) during the second half of the 20th century brought to light the substructure underlying the traditional organization of the Veda. Since Veda is considered to be not created by human intelligence, this structural insights are referred to as Apaurusheya Bhashya – uncreated commentary. Maharishis Apaurusheya Bhashya can be interpreted as the culmination of 100 years of Indological studies focusing on the philological and linguistic aspects of the Veda and Vedic literature and provides the ground for using Vedic strategies to improve the quality of life. The first to recognize the cultural relevance of Maharishi Apaurusheya Bhashya have been (1) Vedic pundits, expert representatives of the Vedic tradition, and (2) practitioners of Transcendental Meditation, a mental technique based on the Veda and designed to realize transcendental consciousness, the home of all knowledge. Both conclude, that the Veda has the status of an universal constitution saveguarding harmony, health, cultural integrity and invincibility of every nation. This revival of the cultural significance of the Veda is supported and strengthened by Maharishi Apaurusheya Bhashya.(1958 - 2008)
